POLICY PURPOSE

This policy establishes the University’s position on flexible work arrangements during the COVID-19 pandemic.

POLICY APPLIES TO (Persons affected by)

All employees of CSU Pueblo.

POLICY STATEMENT

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected how the University is able to conduct business, and in turn the work environment of employees.  The University recognizes that all employees are affected by the pandemic in both their professional and personal lives and seeks to support a work/life balance.  Some employees are struggling with more responsibilities or a higher work load, some to work a full-time job remotely while caring for children or other family members, while others are not fully utilized because most if not all their job duties must be performed in-person.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the University is supportive of flexible work arrangements in which supervisors and employees re-negotiate work expectations to facilitate the most effective work arrangement for the employee and the University, ensuring that critical work is accomplished. This may require reshaping the scope of work to fit the needs of the department, University, and employee.

Supervisors with employees not being fully utilized may together explore options that allow for cross-training (professional development) in other departments to assist in areas that may be carrying heavy loads due to the demands of COVID-19 and operational stress on the University.

Flexible work arrangements should not lessen the quality of the work performed.  Departmental supervisors must document any flexible work arrangement, indicate work expectations, and consult with their supervisors to ensure any re-negotiated expectations fulfill the mission of the University and the requirements of senior leadership. The Emergency Staffing Plan provides guidance to supervisors on developing flexible work arrangements.

The office of Human Resources and Institutional Equity is available to assist with this policy.
